The World’s Biggest Data Breaches

It’s no secret that we have seen some massive data breaches around the world in recent years. Due to advances in malicious technology combined with companies not protecting their data well enough. This had led to billions (yes, billions), of people’s records being stolen. Our team have investigated some of the biggest data breaches that have ever happened!

Cam4

The biggest data breach in history happened to adult streaming site, Cam4. This led to the following data being stolen:

  • 88 billion records
  • Full names, emails and sexual orientation
  • Chat transcripts
  • IP Address
  • Payment logs

Due to the context of the site, this information was considered very sensitive and caused major panic for users of Cam4.

Yahoo

Yahoo initially announced that it was victim of a breach that affected 1 billion accounts, which forced all users to change their passwords because of this. However, it was later revealed that more than 3 billion accounts were actually affected. Always assume that you may be part of a breach and protect your data!

Aadhaarr

Aadhaar is the world’s largest biometric database and in 2018, 1.1 billion people suffered a breach of their data. As you would expect, very personal data was made available to purchase because of this attack. Hackers had access to the following information about users:

  • Bank details
  • Identity numbers
  • Fingerprints
  • Photos
  • Facial recognition data

Using biometric data, someone could steal your entire identity!

Did you know? – The average total cost of a data breach is $4.24 million!

These data breaches will not always be the biggest in the world, and we are destined to see even worse ones in the near future. By protecting your data, you can ensure you aren’t part of these breaches, and if you are, you know how to act.
